A Guide to Braided Polyester Threads

We have three braided polyester threads, Ritza 20, Ritzer 25 (Tiger Thread) and Ritza 44, specially developed to meet the high demands of leather manufacturers.

Hand sewing thread 

Ritza 25

The Ritza 25 thread, also known as Tiger thread, is only suitable for hand sewing due to its synthetic wax coating. It is available in diameters 0.6mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.4mm, 1.7mm in over 20 colours.
This braided polyester thread is great for decorative seams on leather belts, wallets, bags and shoes and creating a contrasting stitch. It's one of the best threads to use for leatherwork as the thread lies flat against the leather.

Ritza 20

Ritza 20 Thread has a light waxed coating and is therefore only suitable for hand sewing. This polyester thread is thinner than the Ritza 25 and not as strong. A great alternative for hobbyists and beginners on a smaller budget.

Machine sewing thread

Ritza 44

Ritza 44 thread is a strong braided polyester thread lubricated with a special silicone oil for machine sewing in any type of machine. Thread diameter ranges from 0.4mm to 1mm.

What Needles can I use with the Ritza 25 thread? 

Using a needle size which is too small for your thread can shred your thread at the eye. Use the following table as a rough guide:

Linen thread  

If you are looking for natural thread, we stock linen thread which can be suitable for hand sewing and machine sewing. Available in various gauges – the higher the number the thinner the thread (numbers refer to gauge/ply). Linen thread is popular for book binding, outdoor equipment and upholstery.
